Four distinct operating footprints across the Philippines — from the sugarcane fields of Negros to the coastal communities of Leyte. The Tacloban work grew from disaster response after Typhoon Haiyan into lasting community presence. Each location has its own story, its own partners, its own pace.

The Story

How we got here

The Philippines programme is the most geographically diverse of all TGA's work — spanning four locations across three major islands. In Bacolod and Sipalay, on the island of Negros, we work alongside local community organisations supporting families whose livelihoods depend on sugarcane farming and coastal fishing — both industries where margins are thin and security is scarce. In Manila, the capital, our work focuses on urban community support — reaching families in some of the densest neighbourhoods in the world. And in Tacloban, on the island of Leyte, the programme has a deeper history: it began in the devastating aftermath of Typhoon Haiyan in 2013, one of the strongest tropical cyclones ever recorded. What started as emergency relief — food, water, shelter — grew into something more durable. Years later, TGA's presence in Tacloban continues — not as disaster response, but as long-term community partnership. That shift — from relief to relationship — defines how we work in the Philippines.

Programmes in Philippines

Each programme is delivered alongside our local partner — Local community partners across four locations.

01

Tacloban Community Support

What began as Haiyan relief has grown into lasting community partnership in Leyte — practical support for families rebuilding their lives over the long term.

  • Continued community development work in the Tacloban area, years after the immediate disaster response ended
  • Livelihood support for families whose incomes were disrupted — small-scale fishing, market vending, and skills training
  • Ongoing relationship with local community leaders who have been partners since the 2013 response
02

Negros Livelihoods

Supporting farming and fishing families in Bacolod and Sipalay — where incomes are fragile and a small amount of consistent support goes a long way.

  • Agricultural support for small-scale sugarcane farming families — equipment, seedlings, and technical advice
  • Coastal fishing community assistance in Sipalay — boat repair, nets, and market access
  • Skills training programmes for young people seeking work beyond agriculture and fishing
03

Manila Urban Outreach

Reaching families in Manila's dense urban neighbourhoods — where the challenges are different but the need for practical, consistent support is just as real.

  • Community food programmes in underserved urban barangays
  • Educational support for children in informal settlement communities
  • Partnerships with local churches and community centres already serving their neighbourhoods
